James F. Spotts, Jr.
James F Spotts, Jr, 76, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, at Coliseum Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, VA. He was a Native of Newport News, where he resided until his move to the nursing facility in 2018.
James, also known as Bubba to his family and friends, beat the odds at the age of 3 when a viral infection resulted in damage to some areas of his brain. Despite this setback in his childhood years, along with the advocacy of his parents, he overcame many challenges and lived a productive life. In his late teens, he participated in a program at the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center, which served individuals with disabilities. He thrived and learned work skills there, leading to referral services and employment.
Bubba retired from Sears (Newmarket Sq) as a Maintenance Assistant after 25 years of Service, only to spend the next 20 years in the Maintenance Dept at Walmart (#1631). He took great pride in his work and the achievements that followed, as did his family. He loved outings with his family and friends and watching any/all sports, but his loyalty remained with the Washington Redskins (Commanders).
He was preceded in rest by his parents, James F Spotts, Sr., and Myrtle Ware Spotts, and his three older sisters, Marilyn, Harriett, and LaVerne.
Bubba is survived by his Nieces, Donna (Michael), Marsha (Richard), Debbie (Phillip), Andrea (Scott) and Nephew, Jason.
The family would like to thank the 73rd Street Neighbors and the Coliseum Nursing and Rehabilitation Center staff for their companionship and caring.
A Graveside Service will occur on Thursday, February 1, 2024, @ 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. Attendees, please use the Nettles Dr. Entrance Gate.
Arrangements under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.

Uncle Bubby, we will miss your sweet soul. I am grateful that Mike and I got to spend so much time with you in the last 5 years. I am grateful we could bring you some joy each week with Burger King cheeseburgers and fries, as well as Vito’s lasagna. And of course, your favorite dessert, cheesecake! It does make me smile to know that you will be with your Mom, my Mom, Kenny and the rest of our family who went to heaven before you. I know Earl has been waiting for you so the two of you can go to the vending machines anytime you want to. You brought joy to Mike and I with your laughter when he would tease you about going back to work at Walmart or taking some of the nursing home staff on a date. Our family was so blessed to have you in our lives. I love you buddy, now and always. Donnie and Mike
