Gerald “Jerry” Lee Harvey
Gerald “Jerry” Lee Harvey passed away Monday, July 25, 2022. Jerry was known to be quick-witted with an open heart, and generous with others; he was a simple man whose happiest times were with family and friends enjoying good food and an ice-cold beer.
Jerry spent his entire career of 45 years working at the Newport News Shipyard as a pipefitter, which allowed him to provide greatly for his family. Known to be thrifty and a “penny pincher,” he enjoyed many things including deer hunting with buddies at R & R Hunt Club near Emporia, tending his summer vegetable garden, and watching his favorite college team UVA, NASCAR and baseball.
Born March 17, 1945, in Newport News, he was the son of the late Erskine and Louvenia Harvey. A sister, Annett Goad, also preceded him in death. Survivors include former spouse and friend, Jenny Harvey; three sons, Tony Harvey (Jennifer) of Carrollton, David Harvey (Brianne) of Fresno, CA, William Harvey of Dallas, TX; daughter, Cathleen Harvey (Chris) of Gloucester; grandchildren Cody Harvey, Graham Harvey, Alexis Bacon, Avery Harvey, and Kaleigh Morningstar; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Graveside services will be private.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

He was Awesome ! I not only lost my Dad but great Hunting and Fishing Buddy. As he has told me, fix what you can fix. The rest you will have to let it go. I Love ya Dad !
Tony, I’m sorry for your loss my brother. I’ve known your dad since 1975. I also knew your grandfather; he was my big boss. I started chewing tobacco working for Eubanks and around your dad. The hunting and fishing were an extra plus and it rubbed off on me as well. Your Dad was good people, cherish the memories. I love you my brother.

Jerry was truly a one of a kind person! He always spoke his mind, he was a hard worker he put others before himself and he enjoyed a simple life. He will be missed by many but most of all by our children! Thank you for always being there and for taking such good care of us! Even though you are now gone from our sight, you are still watching over us.
Jenny and Family- My husband Brian and I lived next door to Mr. Harvey for 6 years when we first got married, until I was pregnant with our 3rd child. Harvey became like family to us and was so good to us. I will never forget the many conversations we had over dinner, sharing a beer and hunting stories in the yard and garden, or him pushing the lawn mower with my son, Luke, right behind him pushing his play mower. They are still some of our favorite memories. He loved you all so much, and he will be greatly missed. Keeping you all in our prayers and always keeping Harvey in our heart.
