Evan Isaac Flanary
The family of Evan Isaac Flanary, 30, of Newport News, sadly announces that he went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 21, 2023. He was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia. Evan was a devoted husband, a loving father, an adoring son, a dedicated big brother, and a loyal friend. Lovingly nicknamed “Red Beard,” his faith and family were most important to him. He had a strong calling to be a witness for the Lord, and his mission in life was to share the love of Jesus Christ. Evan had a very giving spirit, and even in illness, he enjoyed helping people. He loved the mountains in Tennessee, long drives, music, sunrises, Pirate’s Booty Treats snacks, and his Volkswagon GTI. Evan had a gift for turning tears of sadness into tears of laughter. He was known for his special brand of humor. From his unmatched quick wit to his impressions, he always knew how to brighten up someone’s day. Evan would use any reason he could come up with to kidnap you to go for a drive. After many travels worldwide with his family, Evan grew up in Newport News, Virginia. He graduated from Denbigh High School Aviation Academy. Evan went on to love his job at Advanced Auto and was very dedicated to his church, Warwick Baptist, where he was a youth leader. His love of music led him to be on the praise team, where he sang and played guitar for many years.
Evan was the son of Bruce and Lynne Flanary and left behind his loving wife, Emily Flanary, and his precious daughter Harper Jean Flanary.
He was preceded in death by his grandma, Ruth Zartman.
Left to cherish his memories are his sisters Elise Morris (Ryan), Christin Piercy (Shan), sister-in-law Ashley Guill (Jeremy); along with ten nieces and nephews, Neil, Owen, Oliver, Chloe, Isla, Lydia, Alexis, Ethan, Jameson, and Trevor; his father and Mother-in-law, Tim and Kim DeBusk, beloved Mamaw and Papaw Elliott, Grandfather Homer Zartman, as well as his huge loving extended family.
Evan’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to his Promedica Hospice team, especially Connie and Tina, whose devotion and loving care will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, Virginia 23666.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a CollegeAmerica account for the benefit of Harper Jean’s college education. Please get in touch with an immediate family member for information if you would like to give a gift in this way.

Lynn, Bruce & family,
I am so sorry to hear about your losses. No parent should ever lose a child. I believe there is no greater pain, but you are blessed with the knowledge of God’s love and promise. Hold firm to your faith. It is the one thing that will help you find peace in the days, weeks and months ahead. Remember you are not alone in your struggles; your family and friends are struggling, too. Talk to each other, listen to each other, & be patient with each other.
I am praying that all of you find comfort and peace in God’s unwavering love.
Please let me know if I can help in any way.
God Bless!

Evan will be missed dearly. He was such a caring individual and always willing to talk people through tough times. Everyone at Advance Auto Parts and myself send thoughts to all of his family and friends.
Evan was a wonderful person I was so honored that he invited me to his wedding. I enjoyed talking with him about the bible, he was full of knowledge and his face would always shine when he talked about Jesus. Prayers for all the family and especially his wife Emily and daughter.
