Eugene Ottaway “Pete” Peters, 86, passed from his earthly home into his heavenly home on April 7, 2024. Born in Newport News, he was raised by his mother, Olive Morgan Sparrow and step-father Leon Sparrow, along with his father, Thomas Ottaway Peters and step-mother Rachel Peters. He graduated from Newport News High School in 1957. Eugene joined the Naval Reserve for six years and worked in the Shipyard for seven years before attending Virginia Barber College. From then on, he was known as “Pete the Barber.” He barbered until 1999 and then retired to follow his dream of traveling full-time with his wife, Mary, in their motorhome. Eugene was a people person who enjoyed making new friends and sharing his faith through his own life experiences. He was a member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church and also attended Orcutt Baptist Church. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother Gene Raymond Peters.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Mary Magann Peters; daughters, Sherry Castellow (Mike) and Jill Pinner; granddaughter, Elizabeth Driggers (Michael); two nieces; a nephew; and several cousins.

A visitation will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please tell someone about Jesus!
