Dorothy Taylor Howell
Dorothy Taylor Howell, 85, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at her home in Seaford. She was a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and had lived in York County for over 60 years. Dorothy graduated from the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a degree in mathematics. After graduation, she was employed by NACA, now NASA, from which she retired in 1994.
Dorothy loved to read, believed in education and hard work. She loved traveling and had been to Japan, Thailand, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Italy, Portugal and all over the United States. She was the eldest of eight children and put herself through college. She was very determined in her goals – a woman before her time.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William Howell, son Woodrow Walter Howell, II, parents Margaret and Thomas Taylor, sister Carol Taylor Cranford and brother, Thomas Taylor, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Howell; grandson, Thomas James; four sisters, Barbara Arnold, Linda Taylor, Janice Newell, and Deborah Gregory; brother, Stanley Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an educational or STEM (Science Technical Engineering & Mathematics) organization of your choice.

Dorothy’s passion for education, hard work, and extensive travel showcase her adventurous spirit and determination.
