Donald “Donnie” Morris, 74, entered into unexpected glory with his Heavenly Father on Friday, November 24, 2023, at home in Newport News, VA. He was born June 7, 1949, to John Gerald and Anna Bernice (Brizendine) Morris in Warwick, Virginia. Donnie was a lifelong native of Newport News and graduated from the former Newport News High School and went on to graduate from the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Walter “Bud” Campbell.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Tammie (Gilliam) Morris; daughters, Lissa Morris, Lindsay Enzor (Wayne), Jessica Barnes (Cory); sister, Barbara Morris Campbell; brothers, Jerry (Cheryl) and Eddie (Pam) Morris; granddaughters, Destiny Jacqueline Morris, Kaylynn “Tink” Ann Barnes, and Clara “Toot” Virginia Enzor; great-grandson Sidney Axel Holley; and numerous other cherished loved ones to include brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Donnie was employed full-time with the Newport News Shipbuilding, where he spent over 41 years achieving Master Shipbuilder recognition in 2022. He was a devoted member of Menchville Baptist Church, volunteering in numerous ways to support the gospel’s spread. He spent his youth and young adult years playing baseball, softball, and umpiring. Donnie was an avid bowler for many years. He loved Christian music and spent much of his free time traveling to various concerts with his loved ones. Donnie loved to travel, tease anyone who would let him, study God’s Holy Word, and ask intriguing questions. But most importantly, he loved others so well.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Menchville Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Peninsula Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Menchville Baptist Church on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary, with a graveside burial at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park. Oh my, I just tried to call Donnie Monday at the shipyard but there was no answer. He will be truly missed by myself and others. He was a good friend who would check in on me every once in a while, especially after I lost my wife. My prayers are with his family and other friends to remember the good times we all had with him. May the good Lord take care of him.

So sorry to learn of Donnie’s passing. I worked with him for many years in the shipyard when he was in the foundry and I was in subcontracting. I remember back in the 90’s we would kid each other all the time because he was a Lorrie Morgan fan, and I was Reba McIntyre fan. My best memories though, are of the many times I faced off against him in softball. He was a good man and I never heard him say a bad thing about anyone. He will be missed.
