Charles W. Greene
Charles W. Greene, Jr., 72, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, March 6, 2023 following a courageous battle with diabetes.
He was born in Danville, VA, and a native of Newport News, VA. Chuck was a 1968 graduate of Warwick High School and a 1972 graduate of Virginia Tech. He was employed by Hampton City Schools for 32 years as a middle school civics teacher.
Chuck began his career at H. Wilson Thorpe Jr. High and also taught at Thomas Eaton Middle School and C. Alton Lindsay Middle School. He was a member of Hilton Baptist church for over 40 years serving on various committees.
Chuck enjoyed traveling, listening to music, NASCAR, and watching his Atlanta Braves. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his feline fur babies.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Irleene Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Liversedge Greene; daughter, Lindsey Mackie (Rob), Casey Sconyers (Michael); two grandchildren, Brendan Mackie and Hadley Sconyers; two brothers, Ronnie Greene (Debbie), Robbie Greene (Amy); sister, Cindy Gibson (David); two nephews, Jeremy Greene (Shea) and Nicholas Gibson; and great nephew, Arlo Greene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy may be made to Hilton Baptist.
The family will have a visitation on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Hilton Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Newport News, VA 23601,followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

Sometimes words are hard to find and this is one of those times. I am sad for the families increditable loss and my heart goes out to His entire family.
Chuck was the older cousin I had aways looked up to and admired for his steady quite standard and maturity of life. He was more like an older brother when we were together as a group of younger cousins. He was espeacially an example to me when I was in High School. He demonstrated to me that in spite of life’s struggles we can arise to the challenges of life to be more than what we think we can be. For me that was believing that I could achieve a college education with hard work despite my own life’s earlier struggles.
My one thought, my one word of encouragement is only a confirmation to that which his family already knows; Charles William Greene Jr. was an amazing, awesome friend and life example.
My heart hurts for you all. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending love and prayers for the whole family.
Chuck was one of my favorite colleagues at Thomas Eaton when I started teaching . I was sad when he left us for Lindsay but I got to see him when we both worked the AB golf tournaments at Kingsmill. I am truly saddened by this loss. Chuck made the world a better place.
I remember Chuckie working with my dad during the summers. They would come to our house to eat lunch. I can still see him sitting at the dinning room table. He was a big man with such a sweet and gentle spirit. You will be missed. Joyce, take care and may God keep you close.
