Carol Scott Giles
Carol Scott Giles of Hampton, Virginia passed away peacefully in the afternoon on January 26, 2022. Carol was born December 18, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, daughter of the late Thomas Welsted Scott and Eleanor Grey Guirkins Scott. She was the widow of Glenn E. Giles, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2013. Her brother Edwin Thomas Scott also preceded her in death.
Carol lived and worked in Norfolk as a computer systems engineer before retiring and moving to Hampton. She was a faithful member and volunteer at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hampton for many years and enjoyed crocheting prayer shawls for the church. Carol was a long-time member of Hampton Yacht Club, serving on several sailboat racing committees and contributing to women’s sailing competitions. Carol will be remembered as a delightful friend and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother to all her family, always positive in her faith and trust in the Lord.
Her survivors include her daughter Renee Neighbors of Yorktown; grandchildren, Christopher Gillis (Elena) of Charlottesville, Summer Neighbors of Lynchburg, Fisher Neighbors of Yorktown, and Amanda Lane of Richmond. She was awaiting the birth of her great-granddaughter, Ellie Rose Gillis, in April.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hampton at 11 am February 25, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hampton Yacht Club following the memorial service. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Peninsula Memorial Park.
