Brenda Carol (Oakley) Drury passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA.   She was born on May 1, 1945, in Durham, NC, the daughter of the late Manley S. Oakley and Maggie D. Oakley.   Carol graduated from Durham High School in 1963.  For over thirty years, she was employed with Civil Service in Durham, NC; Newport News, VA; Long Beach, CA; and Panama City, FL.  Following her retirement in 2002, she returned from Florida to her home in Newport News.

Carol Drury is survived by her husband, Bernard J. Drury of Newport News, VA; son, Steven Troy Whitley of Buxton, NC; sister, Shirley Oakley Watkins and husband, Wayne of Durham; grandchildren, Austin Dean Whitley of Rocky Mount, NC; Jackson Troy Whitley of Mammoth, WY; Dory Lee Whitley, and Marina Wind Whitley of Buxton, NC; nieces, Susan Hand and Amy Watkins of Durham; and several cousins; step-sons, Duane Drury, Mark Drury, Brian Drury of Southern Maryland, and Jason Drury (recently deceased); step-sister, Cynthia Fields and husband, John; and step-brother, Leonard Drury of Southern Maryland.  She is also survived by her friend of many years, Marcella Griffin of Poquoson, VA.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd, Newport News VA.  Interment will follow at St. Luke’s Cemetery, 14477 Benns Church Blvd, Smithfield, VA.   Facial masks and social distancing will be required.
