With great sadness, the family of Beate Evelyn Martinez of Newport News, VA, announces her passing on January 26, 2024, at the age of 67. She was born on July 5, 1956, in Schweinfurt, Germany, to her mother, Lieselotte Matthias, and raised in Germany by her beloved grandmother, Hedwig Seibauer. After moving to the U.S. as a teen in the ’70s, she eventually settled in Newport News. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom to her daughter Karina, an avid gardener, an active member of her Catholic church community, and a proud EMT. Considered a second mom to so many, Beate will be remembered for her keen sense of fashion and her effervescent personality.

She’s survived by her daughter Karina Martinez; her brothers Charles Prince (wife Tracy) and Michael Prince; her mother Lieselotte Matthias.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 6:00 pm at the Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd,
