Herbert ‘Herby’ Nelson Charles, Sr., born in Newport News, VA on September 11, 1933, and raised in Warwick County, passed on March 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Herbert and Alma Victoria (Teachey) Charles, and his sister.

Herby is survived by his wife, Patricia (Zuskin) Charles; sons, Herb Charles and Lee (Ellen) Charles; daughter, Cindy (Ian) Stanaway; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister.

He was blessed with many friends and was very active in the Williamsburg Seventh Day Adventist Church. He retired after 41 years of service at CSX Railroad, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Peninsula Memorial Park. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
