Bonne Ann Petersen Covey, 72, of Newport News, VA, passed away on October 12, 2026.
Born on February 9, 1954, early life was not easy for Bonne, but she found comfort and safety in her friends, siblings, and beloved grandmother.
Bonne grew up in Richmond, IL. As an adult, she settled in Hoffman Estates, where she raised her family. Bonne worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist, a career she truly loved and excelled at. After retirement, she followed her boys to Virginia to be a full-time grandma.
Known as Nanny to her six grandchildren, Bonne found tremendous joy in them. She loved everything about them and cherished the time they spent together. Having her children and grandchildren all in one place was one of her favorite things.
Bonne loved helping people, going on long and aimless drives, NASCAR, hockey, genealogy, the show Friends, funny videos, online forums, sharing recipes, flamingos, her siblings, her children, and her grandchildren. She was more complex than any obituary can capture and will be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Bostick, and her grandmother, Mary Petersen.
She is survived by her children, Theresa Ginsburg and spouse Brian, Michael Covey and spouse Renee, and Matthew Covey and spouse Ann; grandchildren, Lucas and Lilly Covey, Wyatt and Cole Ginsburg, and Benjamin and Emily Covey; siblings Bob Petersen and spouse CJ, Tina Coull and spouse Neal; Joy Sherman; and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Bonne will be cremated, and her family will honor her memory privately.
