Audrey Lee Johnson Trinkle, 75, of Grafton, Virginia, passed into eternity on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. She will be missed by family, friends, and caregivers that she leaves behind.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, Audrey grew up in the North End community, where she attended Noland Memorial United Methodist Church. She was married young to David O. Trinkle, who was called on to serve his country in Vietnam, and graduated from Newport News High School in 1969, after which she enjoyed a 30-year career with C&P Telephone / Bell Atlantic / Verizon, spanning from Virginia Beach to Richmond. Her second retirement followed a 15-year career at Long & Foster Real Estate’s Kiln Creek office in Tabb. Even while maintaining a busy work schedule, she enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school functions and sports games, caring for her grandson Dylan, and working in her yard.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace C. Johnson and Audrey Daniels Johnson; her sister, Edna J. Matthews; her brother, Raymond Vaughan; and her husband of 45 years, David O. Trinkle. She is survived by her three sons, David L. Trinkle (Christine) of Tennessee, Mark E. Trinkle, and Shaun M. Trinkle; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Trinkle; seven grandchildren, Emilee-Anne, Dylan, Bradley, Christopher, Wyatt, Timothy, and Gabriel Trinkle; and other extended family.
The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home (11144 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23601) on Saturday, September 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home on Monday, September 28, at 1:30 p.m., with burial to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
