Timothy O. Vaughn

Timothy O. Vaughn, 75, peacefully passed surrounded by his loving family. Born in Osceola, Arkansas, to David and Dorothy, Tim lived a life defined by devotion — to his family, his faith, his country, and the people he loved.

Tim dedicated his entire professional career to the service of the United States government, completing 38 years of distinguished military and civil service. He carried a profound love of country and a deep sense of duty throughout his life, serving with honor and integrity.

While Tim loved his great nation deeply, he was also a man blessed with two πατρίδες — two homelands. During his early military service, he was stationed in Greece, where he met the love of his life, Helen. Greece became forever woven into his heart. It was there that they raised their family and built a life rich in love, tradition, and community. Tim embraced the Greek culture and customs wholeheartedly, developing a lifelong affection for the country and its people.

Among his happiest places on earth was the beach at Sounion, Greece, where he found peace in the serenity of the Aegean waters. He could often be found snorkeling along its shores, marveling at the beauty around him.

Above all else, Tim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Helen; his children, Maria (Nik) Perjoka and David Vaughn; and his beloved granddaughter, Elena, who was truly the joy of his life. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John, and sister-in-law, Afroditi Xirohimonas; many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Greece; cousins; and a multitude of beloved parishioners, coworkers, neighbors, and dear friends whose lives he touched deeply.

Tim also cherished his beloved dogs, Zeus and Juno, who were rarely far from his side and brought him immense joy and companionship.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., a Trisagion prayer service will take place at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News, Virginia, officiated by Fr. George Chioros and Deacon Noah Hendricks. A funeral service and interment at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia, will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Newport News, Virginia, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tim will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, steadfast faith, loyal friendship, dedication to service, and the kindness and warmth he extended to all who knew him. His legacy of love, honor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those blessed to have known him.
