Joseph F. Austin, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sonny; his three children, JoAnn (John), Mary (Chad), and Joseph Jr (Amanda); his grandchildren, Aaron, David, Myah, Benjamin, Ava, and Sophia; and step-grandkids Danielle, Jacob (Claire), Mackenzie, David, and Warren.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY, and joined the US Army. He proudly served 20+ years. He was a true patriot. Joe loved his family immensely. He enjoyed fishing and watching war documentaries, war movies, and shows. There wasn’t a day in the house when at some point you didn’t hear the MASH theme song. He also loved telling stories about his Army adventures and proudly wore his Army Veteran hat wherever he went. Joe also loved making people laugh, so “dad jokes” were abundant. He is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
A visitation will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home at 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Virginia 23601 on Thursday, April 16th from 5:00-7:00 PM, with the funeral services on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any Veterans organization

JoAnn, I know there are no words I can offer for true peace and comfort during this time. But just know that your daddy loved you beyond all the galaxies in existence and he was so proud of you. He will always be close to you in the quiet moments and every one in between and will be watching over you every step of the way. Surrounding you and your family in my love and prayers all the way from Columbus, GA. I love you.
