Leroy Francis Albang was born on 05/01/1950 and passed on 10/02/2024. He was 74 years old.
Roy was one of those dads who would watch Meet the Press on an early Sunday morning, at the same time he would make sure all of his kids were getting ready for church. He was one of those dads to make sure all of his kids were seen and heard. He would watch Freestyle Fridays on 106 and Park, just to cheer on Blind Furry. But he was also that pops that would be right beside you while you’re getting a badge for Boy Scouts. Roy would watch WWE wrestling at night but The Riffle Man in the day.
He was a man of many words, but only for the people he cherished. He was a 5th degree black belt & also known as a golden in Cuong Nhu. Roy was a professional choir man, a man of god, and a loyal friend & coworker. He was a Taurus so he was always honest about his words. Roy was true to himself, never sugar coded anything. He was that type of dad that would watch Saturday morning cartoons with you, while he would play World of Worldcraft or Risk on his computer.
Roy was a true modern man, a man that never needed much because what he had was enough. He will always and forever be a Green Bay Packers fan. His surviving family is his wife of 34 years Betty-Jean Albang, his firstborn child Steven Albang, his first daughter Lorah Albang, and his youngest Sarah Albang.

My greatest teacher Cuong Nhu. Kind helpful giving his best to his students to find the best in themselves. He was selfless and very kind. I will cherish his personal signiture on my Coung Nhu rating certificate. Great LOSS so many will represent his values in teaching. Peace to his family, hoping to carry his leagacy. Roy was the epitome of the Warrior spirit. He exemplified the martial artist who used his spirit and mind as his true guide. I watched him over the decades as his body began to fail, but his spirit seemed to get stronger. The last workout I had with Roy was at the IATC 2023 training camp. We did a Tai Chi push hands class together. He was only able to sit during the class. We practiced all the moves. His eyes were lit up with joy and fire . His spirit guided him. His smile shined bright. To me, he was inspirational. He showed us all what the words- never give up really mean. Rest in peace, Warrior.
Roy walked with two canes when I knew him through Cuong Nhu, and was a good example of not letting disability limit what you could do.
Roy’s love for his family was moving – I wish you all peace in the loss of such a wonderful person
Roy was also a great martial artist – I will miss working out with him, philosophizing with him and laughing with him. You will be greatly missed, Roy.
It was great to share Church Choir with Roy for 20+ years. It was great to share Barbershop Harmony with him for many years. I remember him as a real gentleman and someone you were glad to have as a friend. As all good men, he will be greatly missed.
Roy was a great person to workout with and converse with. He was limited in his workout but showed no limits in his effort. He understood more than most but never had to make a point of letting you know this. My spouse Elizabeth and I had long, inspiring philosophical talks with Roy that always gave us pause for thought.
He was a wonderful man, a brilliant man and one hell of a martial artist.
