Patricia “Pat” Taylor

Patricia “Pat” Taylor, age 80, passed away suddenly Monday, July 1, 2024, at her home in Yorktown, VA. Pat grew up in Beckley, West Virginia, where she met her future husband, Edward L. Taylor. They moved to Virginia in 1964 and lived there for the remainder of their lives. In 1971, Ed and Pat opened their hearts and home to a baby girl in need, their only child, Sherry. Ed passed away in 1999.

In 2014, Pat married Wallace Stanley Gainer, and they lived happily together until her death.  Stan and Pat made a pact to kiss every night before bed, even if they were arguing. Stan was a loving husband, caring for her right until the end. Her daughter Sherry promised her dad to always look after her mother.  Sherry upheld that promise and went above and beyond to ensure a happy life.

Pat was a hard worker. She worked from the age of 18 and eventually retired from the Newport News Walmart on Jefferson Avenue after 26 years of service. She loved her Walmart family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Susan Egnor; her husband, Edward L. Taylor; her sisters, Gertie Dotson, JoAnn Smith, Betty Kendrick, Kathleen Goins, and Maud Shiffitt; her brother, Johnny Egnor, and her nephews, Michael Goins and Ricky Kendrick.

Pat leaves behind her second husband, Wallace Stanley Gainer, her daughter Sherry Taylor and her husband, Dr. Aaron Marlow, stepdaughter Betsy McFadden, nephews Rodney Goins, Steve Goins, David Kendrick, Wesley Taylor, Clinton Taylor, Michael Taylor, and her beloved Toy Poodle, Zoey.

The family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Cooper of Hidenwood Family Medicine for her many years of caring for Pat.

Friends and family are invited to Peninsula Funeral Home on July 5, 2024.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:45, with a chapel service at 12:00 p.m., followed by interment at Peninsula Memorial Park.
