Helen M. Lyon, 88, of Newport News, VA, and formerly of Seabrook Island, SC, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024. Born in Ilford, Essex, England, she immigrated to the United States in 1980. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack W. Lyon, and her parents, Ernest and Jessie (Bray) Thurston.

Helen is survived by her devoted daughter, Susan Kenter, and son-in-law, Rob; and her cherished stepchildren: Tracey Angel (Barry), Bill Lyon (Heather), and Rich Lyon (Becky). She was always eager to hear about the successes and adventures of the grandchildren: Emily (Seth), Greg, Tori, Sean, Julia (Addison), Justin, and Brady.

Helen had a passion for gardening and loved the joy her flower garden brought her and others. She doted on her cat, Willow, as well as the community cat, Tabitha. She enjoyed traveling with family, knitting, cross-stitching, and, most recently, learning to paint. Helen cherished her friends and valued her conversations with them. 

A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held at The Chesapeake, 955 Harpersville Road, Newport News, on Saturday, June 22nd, from 10:00 AM to Noon. Her burial will take place later on John’s Island, SC.
