John Burton “J.B.” White

John Burton “J.B.” White, born May 1, 1955 in Newport News, passed away on March 20, 2024, with his beloved wife and daughters by his side. As a resident of Hampton for the past 50 years, evidence of his creativity and incredible aptitude as a machinist and master carpenter can been seen throughout Hampton Roads.

J.B. was a 1973 graduate of Warwick High School and a member of First Presbyterian Church of  Newport News. He enjoyed his time volunteering with the American Youth Soccer Organization coaching many children who loved “Coach White.” Throughout his life, he generously shared his talents with a multitude of friends who affectionately knew him as “Goldilocks.” Renowned for his quick wit and keen humor, J.B. never met a stranger. He was loved tremendously and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Sterling Jay White (son), Helen Eisnor White (mother), and John Robert White (father), preceded him in rest. Left to cherish his memory are his treasured wife of 50 years, Gena Stanaway White, and daughters Autumn White (Warren), Melia White (John), and Cara McGrady (Nick). Grandchildren Logan White, Cameron White (Reena), Piper White, and Hailee White will sorely miss their Granddaddy. J.B. is also survived by sisters Kay Bolden (Butch) and Patti Bellamy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A formal celebration of J.B.’s remarkable life and legacy will be held at a later date, though he will be celebrated every single day by those who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local SPCA in J.B.’s memory.

My dad was one of the most special people this world was lucky enough to see. He was a creative genius and made some of the most beautiful things. His heart was so pure. My elderly dog lost the ability to walk and my dad showed up with a fully-functional dog elevator to help him get off the deck. There was nothing dad couldn’t do. I will miss him every single day.

I only met JB once or twice in all the years he was with my cousin, Gena. I remember him fondly as being a gentle spirited man who was all about his Gena and daughters. I know he will be missed so much by those that knew him and especially his wife and daughters. Thinking about and praying for your family my dear cousin Gena.
