John Henry Benfield, Jr.
On the 3rd of March, John Henry Benfield Jr. of Gloucester, Virginia, went to be with his savior Jesus Christ.
John was born in Rhodhiss, North Carolina, on January 13, 1942, to John and Christine Benfield. On November 17, 1962, in Newport News, VA, he married Violet Rose Jackson, and together they raised four daughters: Christine, Sherry, Linda, and Michelle.
John worked in construction and owned his own company. He loved fishing, hunting, the mountains, feeding seagulls, and working on boats with his dad. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. John loved to tell and play jokes with his family. He had a kind heart and showed it in many ways to people in need.
John was preceded in death by his father, John, mother, Christine, wife, Violet, and sister, Linda. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Susie (James) Cash, sister and brother-in-law Wanda (Emrhys) Bishop, daughter and son-in-law Christine (Mike) Cummings, daughter and son-in-law Sherry (Doug) Schlosser, daughter Linda Skok, daughter Michelle Ausura, grandchild Nichole Skok, Dustin (Sarah) Schlosser, Kayleigh Schlosser, Chloea Skok, Caleb (Kamilla) Schlosser, Seth (Andi) Schlosser, Jacob (Viviane) Skok, John Michael Cummings, Heather Skok, Lauren Cummings, Aaron Ausura, 14 great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful companion Lucy who enjoyed treats and rides in his truck.
There will be a graveside service at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Friday, 3:00 p.m. A celebration of life gathering will be held at his home on a future date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the American Heart Association at www.Heart.org.

Chris and family, we are so very sorry for your loss of your father, and we are heartbroken as well. John was so kind and had a
wonderful sense of humor. Every time we spoke, we just laughed and laughed. He also was a ‘dad’ to Butch, who loved him deeply. I know he’s with Violet now resting in the arms of Jesus. John, we love you so and will miss you dearly…..

When you speak of a man’s man, John Benfield fills the bill. He’s a friend, and one of the better people I’ve known in my life time. He’ll certainly be missed by friends and business associate’s. My heartfelt condolences to his wonderful family.
