Frances (Fran) Carter Schridde
Fran Schridde, 97, passed away peacefully at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Morehead City, North Carolina, on January 15, 2024. She was born on January 11, 1927, in Boydton, Virginia, and has resided in Hampton, Virginia, all her life. Until the week before her death, Fran lived independently and with great dignity, connecting to her family and friends through visits and phone calls.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Fred Schridde, who died in 2011. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Hondros (Randy) of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, Gail Moyer (Dave) of Hertford, North Carolina; four grandsons, Scott Hondros (Jessica), Brad Hondros (Amanda), Davis Moyer (Lindsay), and Drew Moyer. She was also overjoyed to have three wonderful great-grandsons, Hunter, Wesley, and James.
Fran was a faithful member of the Orcutt Baptist Church in Newport News, where she was active and involved with church ministries for more than 70 years. Her main joy was helping others, which she continued to do well into her 90s. She was a special person who will be missed and remembered as a wonderful Mama, Grandma, and Gigi.
A visitation will be held at the Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., in Newport News, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, followed by a memorial service at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Peninsula Rescue Mission, Orcutt Baptist Church, or a charity of one’s choosing. Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.

Mrs Francis was the most sweetest kindest person I have ever met. I only knew her for a short time but I’m glad I was able to be a part of her life and her in mind. My condolences to the family.
Fran was a dear friend to my mother, Lucille, for over 50 years. She was like a second grandmother to my kids who have warm memories of time spent with Fran on the Outer Banks of NC. I’ve know Fran since I was a kid myself. I have many fond memories of time spent at the Schridde home and vacation weeks at the Outer Banks Beach Club. All of us were blessed to have Fran in our lives and she will be sorely missed.
Gail, Pat and all the family I’m so sad that Mrs. Schridde has passed But know she is happy with Mr. Schridde and has that pretty smile for everyone. She was definitely one of the nicest, sweetest persons I have ever known. Yawl have many many beautiful memories to carry with you forever! Prayers are with you
