Jessie Loren Crockett
Jesse Loren Crockett, a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at age 70 on January 14, 2024.
Jesse graduated from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton and was a long-time member of the Northampton Volunteer Fire Department, which he loved. He lived in his Northampton neighborhood for 45 years and loved his neighbors.
Jesse loved Mountain Dew and the show Yellowstone. He enjoyed watching all sports and was a fan of the North Carolina Tarheels and the Las Vegas Raiders. He was dedicated to his work and would be there every morning at 5:00 a.m. Jesse also enjoyed doing yard work and could be seen working in the yard every weekend during the spring and summer. Jesse was introduced to Theresa, his loving wife of 49 years, by his brother-in-law, Billy Jr., while working at the Daily Press. Jesse loved his family, including his cats. He was a dedicated father to all his children, whom he loved dearly. He adored his mother-in-law, Theresa Hall; he would do anything for her and his children. He enjoyed the running joke with his family that he was famous because he closely resembled Jeff Dunham’s puppet, Walter. Jesse was very close to his brother-in-law, Emmett, whom he jokingly called “Crackhead” instead of Emmett, and enjoyed the many times they spent making fun of each other’s sports teams. Jesse adored his grandparents, Howard and Ada Crockett, whom he spent a lot of time with when he was young. He enjoyed their weekly outing to Giant Open Air after church on Sundays to get a pizza he would eat in the car with his grandma. He also loved his grandma’s scrapple so much that she would make her “Jesse Loren,” as she always called him, two pans just for him every year around November and would call him to come pick it up while it was warm.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jessie Crockett; mother, Phoebe Tillison-Wingard; grandparents that he adored, Howard and Ada Crockett; and father-in-law, William R. Hall, Sr.
Jesse is survived by his wife of 49 years, Theresa Crockett; his sons, Emmett Crockett (Jenna) and Christopher Crockett (Amanda); his daughter, Tammy Smith; his grandchildren, Rawley, Cameron, Annabelle, Breslyn, River, Layne, and Keegan; his brother, Robert Crockett (Debbie); two special brothers-in-law, Emmett Hall and William Hall (Judy); and his mother-in-law, Theresa Hall.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Newport News Animal Services, 5843 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, VA 23605.

Jessie will be dearly missed by not only his Family & Friends but also by His Neighbors. Jessie was always so polite to everyone & would always address you by either Mr. or Mrs. no matter how well or how long he knew you. Jessie was a hard worker and loved his Family. He always took pride in everything he did. He was the kind of neighbor that everyone wished they had.

Teresa, so sorry to hear of Jesse’s passing. I thought of him often since my retirement from the fire dept. He was a friend to everyone, and especially helpful to me whe I was building the furniture for the station.
So sorry to hear about your loss of Jesse ,I have and had a great respect for him as he worked for me while at Parkview Supply Co.,He was very helpful and friendly to all that worked with him, I will miss him, He was always thoughtful and kind to my Boys when he was around them ,may God Bless you all as we share his thoughts and memories, hugs and love for all of family, prayers ❤️ Dwight

I was broken-hearted to learn of Jesse’s passing. He has always been such a sweet gentle soul, and a wonderful grandad to Cameron. May God enfold you all with His love, strength and understanding during this time. My continued prayers are with all of you.
Sissy words cannot express the sorrow we feel for you and the family for such a great loss to you all. Jesse was an outstanding man and was always their to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He will be missed by all. Our prayers are with you all.

I’m very sad to have heard that Jesse has passed and I want to add my condolences to family and friends. I had the honor of working with him for several years at Kempsville Building Materials where he was affectionately known as Tuna. Always a joy to talk to and it was obvious he loved and was proud of his family. He was a force to be reckoned with in the warehouse and how he got so much done in a day I’ll never know. Fair well my friend, my life is better for having known you.
