Virginia Deuell DeBerry, 96, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Thursday, December 14, 2023. She was a native of Newport News, Virginia. After many years working in a bag factory, she moved to the Newport News Shipyard, where she retired from the Maintenance Department at 62.

Virginia was preceded in death by her son, James W. DeBerry, Jr., and his wife, Melody DeBerry; siblings, Charles Deuell, Jesse Deuell, Roy Deuell, Judy Walker, and Susie Johnson.

She is survived by her son, H. Wayne DeBerry (Vicky); siblings, James Deuell, Tommy Deuell (Tina), and Maza Lee Williams; grandchildren, Stephanie DeBerry, Jeffrey DeBerry (Cathy), Doug DeBerry (Linda), Amy DeBerry Seddon (Scott); great-grandchildren, Gavyn DeBerry, Paige DeBerry, Drew DeBerry, Taylor Davis Dillon (Patrick), Grayson DeBerry, and Jordan DeBerry.

Virginia never met a stranger. If you were lucky enough to cross her path, you were greeted with warmth, kindness, and her beautiful smile. She was a free spirit with an unrivaled sense of adventure. She lived a life filled with travel, family, fun, and laughter. We are all blessed to have been loved by her.

A memorial service for Virginia will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
