Lillie Mae Underwood, 90, went home to be with Jesus on July 27, 2023. She was one of seven children belonging to Pius and Frances Keller, originally from Richmond.

Lillie was born on November 26, 1932, in Richmond, VA. She and her family later moved to Newport News. She met her husband, Joseph Underwood, while he was stationed at Ft. Eustis and enjoyed a wonderful marriage for 65 years. Throughout their lives, Joseph and Lillie loved to dance together and did so until his failing health stopped them. Lillie worked at C&P Telephone and Bell Atlantic for much of her life.

She is survived by her son, Kenny Underwood, and daughter, Lisa McKernon, sister, Deal Knight of Williamsburg, and their families, including six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Friends will gather to visit with her family on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News, with a memorial service following immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
