Mrs. Virginia “Betty” Yates Whitt, of Yorktown, VA passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, at the age of 88 years old. Betty was born in Sutherland, Virginia on January 7, 1935, a daughter of the late Claude and Annie Yates.

Betty was a Vice President at M. Price Distributing Company in Hampton, where she worked for 48 years. She was the Valedictorian of the Wilson Memorial High School Class of 1953.  Betty was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 60 years serving both in the choir and at the Welcome Desk.

On September 24, 1952, she married Walter Cornelius Whitt and they were married for 65 years until his passing.

Betty is survived by her son, Walter Whitt Jr. of Winchester;  granddaughter, Stephanie (Andrew) Bean of Yorktown; grandsons, Walter Roth Whitt of Williamsburg and Joseph Ryan (Garland) Whitt of Winchester; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Logan Bean, Abigail Whitt, Elspeth Sommer, and Althea Whitt.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Hunt will officiate. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
