Sharon J. Harrah
Sharon J. Harrah passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the age of 78. She was a native of West Virginia but had been a resident of Newport News for 62 years. Sharon retired from Colonial Kitchens after a 30-plus year career, while also performing bookkeeping for Triad Machine Shop.
Sharon was most proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and most recently great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching and supporting her children and grandchildren in their sports and activities. Cooking for and hosting family and friends, always serving others before herself, Happy Hour with neighbors on her front porch, and pottery and artwork were some of her favorite things.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Harrah, parents, John and Betty O’Neil, and sister Barbara McCamant.
She is survived by her sons George “Eddie” Harrah II (Diane) and Todd J. Harrah (Kelly); seven grandchildren, Justin M. (Janet), Benjamin A. (Caitlin), Stephen W., Patrick E. (Isabel), Rachel L. (Forrest Alston), Mary Kathryn and Megan E. Harrah; two great-grandchildren Austin E. and Joylin H. Harrah; two brothers Pat O’Neil and Mike O’Neil; and sister, Peggy O’Neil.
A special thanks from the family to the doctors and staff at The Chesapeake and Hampton Sentara Careplex Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care.

I enjoyed having lunch with her after class we knew how the other one felt and we enjoyed talking about her COPD and what was going on in class she really loved going to Manhattan’s. I really will miss seeing her face at the end of the table prayers are with her family.
Hugs miss Sharon, Eddie, Todd and family. So many fun cookouts, fish fries, and gatherings.
Our families have been friends for many years and we have so many good memories to remind us of years past. Mom and I visited with her during her stay at the Chesapeake and had some laughs talking about some of those memories. We are so glad we got to spend that time with your mom. She was so very proud of her family and appreciated everything that y’all did for her. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Love to all.
