Edith Trollinger, 96, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023.  In 2016, she “graduated” from hospice and until March of this year had lived independently at home with help from the many friends who loved her.

Known as Edie and Miss T, all who knew her loved her sweet spirit and positive outlook.  She and her husband Lee were soldiers in The Salvation Army Church, and she taught Sunday School for many years. She was born November 6, 1926, and grew up in Madison County, NC during the Depression.  Those years instilled in her the gift of valuing and saving everything.   She worked at Oak Ridge, TN on The Manhattan Project from 1945 – 1947 and fondly recounted her experiences there.  She lived simply in the same little house for over 60 years.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edith was predeceased by her husband Lee K. Trollinger, their son Lee K. Trollinger Jr., her husband Morris February, her parents, Nova Gowan and Colin S. Cook, brothers Wallace, Reid, Paul, Ted, and James, and nephew Buddy Cook.  

Edith is survived by grandsons Justin (Heather) and Nathan Trollinger; great-grandchildren Matthew, Athena, and Jameson; brother Don Trollinger and his son Gil; and many nieces and nephews.  She was especially grateful for her niece Doris Stills, who came and stayed for several weeks on more than one occasion when she was in hospice.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News.  A separate graveside service will be held in Madison County, NC.
