John R. Beegle, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at his home. He was a native of Baltimore, MD, and was a resident of Newport News. John retired from the Army after 29 years as a Command Sergeant Major at Ft. Eustis Military Base.  While John was in the service, he traveled with his family to many different places including France, Holland, Germany, Panama, and several other states. He was a member of the Catholic church.

John loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed going fishing before he went blind, and the family would often accompany him. He enjoyed working on cars and helping people fix things. John was the kind of man that would do anything for you to help. He loved to watch the History Channel, National Geographic, and the news channel to keep up to date with what was happening in the world around him. John was an excellent guitar player and singer. He was the absolute best dad ever!

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Magdalene Beegle; his parents; several brothers and sisters; and his great-granddaughter, Kayla Crissman.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Crissman; two sons, John A. Beegle and Glenn M. Beegle; grandchildren, Nicholas Beegle, Brandon Crissman, Katherine Canady, and Jonathan Gecele Beegle; and seven great-grandchildren, Joseph Canady, Jason Canady, Jayla Smith, Omar Griffin, Jr., Erin Griffin, Logan Beegle, and Jaxon Beegle.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Albert G. Horton Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
