Selma Winebarger
It is with deep sorrow and much Love that we mourn the passing of Selma Lee Mitchell Winebarger, 96, born January 19, 1927, in Newport News, VA. She resided in Gloucester Va. We know that her firm belief in God has given her peace. Her passions were God, Family, and Children. Selma was a full-time housewife and Mother whose legacy of love towards children extended to include any and all family members because of her compassion for them. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support.
Selma was number eleven from a family of sixteen children born to the late Alvin and Selma Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Winebarger.
Selma is survived by two sons, Brian L. Winebarger and Michael R. Winebarger (Janet); four grandchildren, Dana Spence, Ashley Pels (Mike), Erin Miller (Don), and John W. Winebarger; three great grandchildren, Gabriel Mathews, Sam Spence, and Ella Miller; and her only surviving sibling, John Edward Mitchell
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. The funeral service will occur on Saturday, May 13, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Selma my aunt Mom was a God send to me. Growing up in a abusive home, if it was not for her love it is certain I would have gone by the wayside. I give her credit for everthing that is good about me. Growing up she was my go to for advise when i reached the road bumps in adult life. I didn’t always follow it, yet I admit Mom was always right. As I pray for God’s help in learning to live without her I am happy knowing she is Rejoicing in meeting her Lord and Savior.
I am blessed to have met her. Rest in peace with your Jesus Selma.
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Selma. She was so loved by so many. She was such a good friend to my husband’s grandma (Lola Beggerly). We will definitely be praying for the famil.
