Lillian McIntyre Dooley, 92, joined her husband in Heaven on March 14th surrounded by her daughter, Sharon, and  son-in-law at their residence in Jacksonville, FL.

Lillian was born in Granite City, IL, but for the last 60 years of her life lived in Newport News, VA. She was the daughter of Thomas McIntyre and Lillian Watkins and was predeceased by her husband James Richard Dooley March 21 st , 2022. She graduated from Chester High School (where she met her husband) and received a BS in Education from Westchester State Teachers College. She was a schoolteacher in Pennsylvania for 5 years at Wallingford Elementary and then also in Smithfield, Virginia.

After teaching she dedicated her life to serving people with special needs including “The Special Friends Exchange Club”, Girls Troop 140, Camp Parkistan Summer Day Camp, Special Olympics and other activities through the years. She has also enjoyed spending time with the Red Hats and building special friendships.

In 1969, after researching many Churches, she and her husband began an active life in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Lillian was always active in the Relief Society organization and served as a Visiting Teacher for over 40 years. She was also the congregational chorister and organist for many years.

Lillian is survived by her daughters, Linda and Sharon, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who love her dearly. Her greatest love has been her family; and all

grandchildren and great grandchildren have been blessed by her love. Her daughter

Linda has had special needs and Lillian devoted her life to caring, loving and ensuring that Linda’s life was full of fun and  activities.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 902 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA on Monday March 27 th at 11AM; friends may come an hour earlier to visit with the family. The committal will take place following the church service, at Albert G Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA  at3PM.
