Nelda S. Whitley Warner
Nelda S. Whitley Warner of Yorktown, VA, 92, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, to be with her Heavenly Father, family, and friends. Nelda was the kindest, most generous, humorous, and loving mom, wife, daughter, aunt, friend, and neighbor you could have. She enjoyed the simple things of life and her family and friends meant everything to her. She was there when you needed her, never judgmental, and always had the right advice no matter what the situation. She was a Christian and relied on her faith through the good times and bad. She always said she was looking forward to being with Jesus and reuniting with her family.
Nelda was born in Henry County, Bassett, VA, on September 19, 1930. Her family moved to Newport News, VA in 1933. At the age of 19, she married her sweetheart, Wade Thomas (WT) Whitley. They raised their 5 children in a home full of love and wonderful memories that will always be cherished. She always made the holidays special. Mom worked inside and outside of the home over the years. She was a Switchboard Operator at Fort Monroe and Montgomery Ward. She also worked for American Greetings Cards and at Hampton Roads Recycling Center. In July 1982, she married Donald Warner and they had 14 wonderful, memorable years together.
Nelda was preceded in death by her father James C. Shively, mother Pearl Angle Shively, her brothers Jimmy, Curtis, and Charles, and her sister Arlene Earnhardt Stone.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband Wade T Whitley, her husband Donald Warner, and her beloved dog and companion “Pepper”.
Nelda is survived by her 5 children, Richard (Karen, who in our mother’s heart was always a daughter to her) Whitley, Cindy (Rollie) Ligart, Linda (Max) Whitley, Terri (Mike) Walters, and Kellie (Mark) Lohenitz; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
On behalf of her children, we would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff and her friends at The Hamilton Assisted Living Facility in Yorktown, VA. We also want to thank Dr. John Bryant, Dr. Jeffrey Harris, and their nurse “Donna” at TPMG in Yorktown for taking such good care of Mom over the years. We want to thank Mom’s amazing neighbors, Felicia and Dan, for their love and friendship toward her and the family. Everyone has shown an enormous amount of care and concern for Mom and our entire family.
Thank you, it has been greatly appreciated.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 21, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the funeral home with interment following at Parklawn Memorial Park.
