Vernon “Doc” Ray Music
Vernon “Doc” Ray Music born on August 15, 1944, in Guyman, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Doc went into the Navy right out of High School. He proudly serviced from 1962 to 1968.
After leaving the Navy, he went to Dallas and worked for Sears Roebuck from 1970 to 1995 in the maintenance department. He later worked for Brown and Root for three years, and Quality Contractors as a Journeyman Electrician for six years. In 2004, he and his wife moved to Newport News, Virginia to be with family and worked in the family business. From 2005 to 2007, Doc worked for Bay Electric and Systems East, Inc. for a short time. While at Systems East, he met his dear friend Ralph who he enjoyed visiting and emailing. Due to disabilities from back surgeries, Doc took early retirement at the age of 62. While he enjoyed tinkering in his garage, growing fresh tomatoes, he also enjoyed watching old cartoons and surfing the net, and emailing friends. His pride and joy – a 1993 Ford F150.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Mabel Music, brother Westley Music, sister Joyce Stwally, and his Uncle Glen (Tiny) Taylor. He is survived by his wife Sharon K. Music; daughter Angela Colbert; two granddaughters Ashley Rhodes (Kris) and Autumn Colbert (Chance Barker); three great-grandchildren, Nathan Rhodes, Isabella Rhodes, and Ty Cash Barker; two sisters Micki Sequin and Jo Blackman; and sister-in-law June Ray (Ronnie).
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 14, 2022, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park, with Reverend Walter Satchell officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

My sister Jo and I will miss having our brother. He was always there for me personally to help when I needed things done. Like having man to man talks with my son. And as far as I know there was not a thing he could not repair. He was kind. And he loved Texas and anything Texan. I hope he is with our mother now as he loved her dearly. See you soon love .
