After a very long, bravely fought battle with cancer, Ed Mitchell, 63, was called home by the Lord on September 16, 2022. Ed loved God, his family, and his country. Born on September 18, 1958 and raised in Newport News, VA, he was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula.

Ed was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and NHRA. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Green Bay Packers. But his real passion was watching his grandchildren play ball. He loved seeing granddaughter Lynlea playing fast pitch softball and seeing grandson Kason playing baseball. He was a proud grandfather and one of their biggest fans.

Ed worked in many different professions, including purchasing agent; many years as an industrial contractor with AMARK; and tow truck operator for Pete’s in Newport News. He was an honest, hardworking man who will be missed by many.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Mitchell, Sr; his mother, Barbara D. Mitchell; and his nephew, Eric Mitchell (son of Dennis Mitchell and Janice Tiedeken). Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 30 years, Susan; son, Eddie (Adia); daughter, Erin (Brad); daughter, Margaret (Kyle); grandchildren, Chandler, Raegann, Lynlea, and Kason; brother, Dennis (Joyce); and sister, Lynn (Mick). He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. Please join the family in honoring Ed’s love of sports, by wearing a sports Jersey or T-shirt of your choosing. Casual wear is encouraged. Ed would have wanted it that way!
