Jean Shumate, 90, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 26, 2022. She was a native of Newport News and a member and volunteer for 60 years at Parkview Baptist Church.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Shumate, Jr., grandson, Tyrelle Shumate, and brother, Bill Burcher. She is survived by two daughters, Pam Shumate of Hampton and Brenda, and favorite son-in-law, Tommy Rowe of Newport News; son, Barry Shumate of Newport News; four nieces, Susan, Diane, Vicki, and Beth; one nephew, Rusty; and her Parkview family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.
