Linda Ruth Hatcher
Linda Ruth Hatcher, 67, of Newport News departed to her heavenly home on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022.
Born May 1, 1955 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, daughter of the late Walter and Mona Coffman. She was married to Tillman Ellis Hatcher, Jr. of McColl, South Carolina on December 11, 1971.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. An active military spouse at their various assignments. She’s been mayor of enlisted housing at Fort Bragg and Fort Monroe; became an EMT for Patterson Army Hospital, NJ; Chapel Wedding Planner at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; a Brownie Troop Leader, an Army Family Team Building Instructor; in 1994, she was selected by the National Military Family Association to give testimony to the House Armed Services Committee advocating on behalf of families Army-wide to prevent closing the commissaries at smaller military posts/bases. They did not close. In 1997 she earned her Associate Degree cum laude in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University; soon afterwards launched her Personal Chef business The Happy Gourmet. Her hobbies included: baking, cooking, skiing, repelling, photography, ceramics. Her joy throughout her life was meeting new people, she never met a stranger, and helping anyone with a need.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ellis Hatcher; daughter Eden Cox (Tony) and son Tim Hatcher (Andrea); grandchildren, Jordan Murphy and Jakob Cox; along with Jenna and Timothy Hatcher; great grandchildren, Shiloh and Selena Murphy.
Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7 at Newport News Church of the Nazarene, 29 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601

Ellis and family you are in my thoughts and prayers. I was saddened to hear of Linda’s passing. She was always so fun to be around, energetic, funny and loving. She will certainly be missed. She is with my mom and our Heavenly Father. Prayers for the peace and comfort in the days to come. Love you all. (((HUGS)))
Mr. Ellis my heart truly goes out to you and your family. I always enjoyed seeing Ms. Linda when she came the VASC. She was always so willing to help and just talk with staff and visitors. She was a delightful person. May God continue to keep you and your family strong. Know that Ms. Linda will missed but not forgotten. RIP Ms. Linda.
