Freddie L. Jones
Freddie L. Jones, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022. He was a native of Mt. Olive, North Carolina, and a resident of Newport News, Virginia for 63 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served until 1954 in Munich, Germany. After being discharged, he went to work with his uncle at his plumbing company in New Bern, NC. This is where he met his soon-to-be wife, Kay Adams and they were fortunate enough to be married for 65 years and were blessed with three children: Lou Jones, Leonard Jones (Sevgi), and Lisa Munson (James). Freddie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Kristin Colwell (Steven), James R. Munson, Jr. (Brandi) and Kevin Munson (Jenny), and his great-grandchildren.
Freddie worked hard every day of his life to provide for his family since the day he said, ‘I DO.’ He worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, as a Pipefitter, for 35 years. Freddie loved everyone in his family and even those who weren’t like they were a part of the family. He faithfully attended West Hampton Baptist Church where he was active in Sunday school, lawn maintenance, and other work as needed.
He also enjoyed working with his hands on race cars, and in construction and was a long-time gearhead. He truly was a “jack of all trades and a master of none.” He was a kind, gentle soul who loved God, his family, and his friends. He’d help anyone who needed a hand. Freddie was a ‘determined’ soul and wanted to do things right the first time. He loved giving hugs and did his happy, little ‘Freddie’ dance afterward. Freddie lived a good life of 90 years and he passed away peacefully in God’s arms. He will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him. We’ll always cherish him and the memories we share of him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. The family will receive friends,at the funeral home, following the service until 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park. Dear Kay and family,
I am so sorry for your loss, but we know that Freddie is with his Lord and Saviour now. Just like my mother, Mary Heath no more pain and they are celebrating in heaven. I pray that God will give you peace and comfort for the days ahead. David and I send you all our deepest sympathy.
Love,
David & Donna Burgess
Freddie was one of kind. He was faithful to his wife and family. Being my Grandparents (Condron’s) lived 2 doors down he was an original on 72nd Street. Freddie always was so friendly and loving. I always’ loved his hugs. He was a hard worker in everything he did. After my Grandpa passed he cut my Grandma’s yard because he knew she was unable…his kindness always showed. He will very much be missed but will always be precious memories. Praying for his family & friends with much love.

Kay, words can’t express how sorry I am for your loss but heaven sure is a more lively with Freddie there! He was a loving fellow here on earth to everyone! May God give you strength and grace for each day until we see him again one day!
Freddie was as friendly as a handshake, and his “word was his bond.” He had the old fashioned values that really never run out of style: he worked faithfully, diligently and intelligently on any project or commitment he undertook; he treated others with fairness and grace; he loved the Lord and let his actions, not just his words, speak the loudest for his testimony and faith. He was a “square guy” in the best sense of the term, as both his “yes” and “no” meant something — no deceit or hidden agendas in this gracious man’s demeanor. In a word, you could count on Freddie as a man’s man who could be trusted, and always humbly available to gladly assist anyone with a need.
He will be greatly missed, for there are few his equal on this earth. We were among the privileged to call him one of our friends. Goodbye, dear brother in Christ. We will meet again.
Our prayers and deepest condolences, Kay, to you and all your family relations. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord … that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them” (Rev. 14:13).
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
