William Jarmon Eason, III

William Jarmon Eason, III, 80, passed away Monday, July 25, 2022. He was born in Smithfield, North Carolina, and graduated from Smithfield High School and North Carolina State University in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a proud member of ROTC and the National Society of Pershing Rifles.

Jarmon was a Newport News, Virginia, resident for over 50 years. He started his engineering career at Virginia Electric Power Company and Fieldcrest Industries, and he retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 2008 after spending 40 years involved with the design, construction, overhaul, and refueling of naval nuclear submarines, frigates, and aircraft carriers working in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Quality, National Security and Programs Administration. He held leadership roles in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Society of Quality Control, American Society of Non-Destructive Testing, and the American Society of Plant Protection.

Jarmon was a dedicated member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church serving as Church Treasurer and United Methodist Men’s Treasurer. He was an active member of the Church Council and Nelms Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his father William Jarmon Eason, Jr., and his mother Bettie Parrish Eason. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gail Holloman Eason and his two daughters Stefanie Rauch (Michael) and Leanne Bishop (Mark). Jarmon was the most wonderful and loving PaPa to his seven grandchildren Melissa Hall (Ray), Meredith Rauch, Marks Rauch, Wilson Hatchett, Chance Hatchett, Campbell Bishop, and Griffin Bishop, and his three great-grandchildren Aleena, Amirrah and Malik Radwan, and beloved sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Clayton Corbett of Snow Hill, NC. He is also survived by his longtime, dear friends Glenn and Kaye Rains of Cary, NC, and Randy and Carroll Edwards of Little River, SC, and his beloved cat, Smoke.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 P.M. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12 P.M. on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Kenneth S. Waclo. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Virginia, 23601.

    Gail, Stefanie, Leanne. And the rest of the family – am very sorry to hear about Jarmon; but grateful y’all had so many wonderful years (never enough) with him. Hopefully, those loving memories will add sunshine to the days ahead. Hugs to all as you travel this road.

    My heartfelt condolences to all your family. Jarmon was a friend to me in high school band. He was several years older tan me and was always kind and helpful to me during the two years we played in band together. I am so sorry for your loss.
