James T. “Tommy” Winn
James T. “Tommy” Winn passed away at home on Thursday, June 16, 2022. He served in the U.S. Navy as a bombardier in Squadron 119 in the Pacific during 1944. He worked at NASA – Langley Field from 1951 until he retired in 1983.
Tommy was an Obedience Dog Show Judge for over 50 years and loved his boxers. He was an avid golfer and played the game into his nineties. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. He had an outsize personality that entertained his grandchildren endlessly. He has left the family with many crazy stories and funny sayings. He was dearly loved.
Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Joyce. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Duane, and Ann; his daughter and daughter-in-law, Dyane and Beth; and his grandchildren; Stefanie, Tyler, and Jennah. He is also survived by one special lady, Sherri; and his beloved friend, Damon, who cared for Tommy over the past year of his life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 22, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23, in Peninsula Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Cheralynn Shearn.
Riverside Hospice provided Tommy with a wonderful team of ladies. He loved Kathy, Denise, and Cheralynn; and they loved him. These ladies provided much comfort to him and his family. Worked with Tommy for years at NASA. I’ll remember his stories and jokes forever. What a great man. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Worked in the same shop with Tommy at NASA. Great sense of humour and loved being a judge at his dog shows. I enjoyed the time that we spent together. May he rest in peace. My condolences and prayers to his family.
I will never forget this special man with the best mischievous smile I’ve ever seen! It brings me such peace to imagine him holding the hand of his true love once again. It was an honor to care for him. Love to his family!

He was the great guy. I am sorry I’m just seeing this. I would have been there to honor him and hug his daughter and daughter in law.
Tommy was a terrific neighbor and friend to me when I lived a few doors down in Virginia. Always kind and helpful – we had some really interesting conversations. My sincere condolences to his family – I know he will be deeply missed.
