Lorraine White

Lorraine White passed away peacefully at her home in Newport News on April 26, 2022. Born on April 3, 1934, she was a native of Pennsylvania, but later moved to Virginia as part of a career transition for her beloved husband Jerry.

Lorraine retired as an Army civil servant at Fort Eustis in 1993 and became an active volunteer at various places to include the Mary Immaculate Hospital gift shop and welcome desk, as well as an usher at Ferguson Center for the Arts. She had a passion for musicals and regularly attended local and Off-Broadway shows around the area. She enjoyed meeting her friends at the Senior Center of York weekly for several rounds of canasta. Not only was it her favorite card game, but one in which she excelled. She was also a big animal lover to include her own dogs and grandpups. She was known to spoil all of them. On more than one occasion, she was scolded by her grandsons for sneaking table food to the various dogs in her life. Her favorite place to visit was the ocean. She also adored her two grandsons, Chris and Corey who regularly visited and cared for her lawn as she became unable to do it on her own. For all who knew her, she was fiercely independent even as she became feebler in her last few years. Her last grand accomplishment was renewing her license this past March.

She suffered a couple of significant losses over the course of her life with the early passing of both her husband Jerauld “Jerry” and son Michael. She is also preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Minnie Butts, and nine of her ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Kelley Jacobs; grandsons Christopher Jacobs (Elyssa Bennett) and Corey Jacobs (Morgan); sister Marie Condron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, 6:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am the following day at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Harpersville Road and will be followed by her interment at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

Condolences may also be posted on the funeral home website, peninsulafuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Newport News SPCA.

Mrs. Lorraine White’s family are covered with our prayers. Looking at Mrs. White’s beautiful picture, I know without a doubt we had the pleasure of being greeting and assisted by her when she ushered at the Ferguson Center because we enjoyed a wide variety of shows there since ’95. As an avid dog lover myself, I will gladly make a donation to the Newport News SPCA in her honor. To Mrs. White’s family: May your golden treasure chest of memories of Mrs. White fill and envelope your heart and manifest itself outwardly so that your acts mimics hers. God Bless You All!

My family offer condolences to yours. You will definitely be in our prayers during this difficult time of loss. No words can accurately bring the level of consolation you need during this time, and it’s often stated but true, “only time will heal this pain.” I too pray that you will cherish dearly the memories and allow her to live on through you in her words and deeds.

May the Peace of God be multiplied in your household

My prayers are with you and your family. I worded with Lorrane abs after retirement I would see her at Mary Immaculate. She sure loved Jerry, she missed him so much, would get emotional when she talked about him.
