Christopher D. Cox
Christopher D. Cox, 67, passed away on February 15, 2022. He was a native of Asheville, North Carolina and a resident of Newport News. Chris served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He then later became a federal firefighter for Ft. Eustis, Virginia and also served in Shelby, North Carolina for a total of 30 years. He was a lobbyist for the Fire Department Union.
Chris’s two passions in life were firefighting and cooking. After retiring, he worked at numerous restaurants and enjoyed interacting with the patrons. He enjoyed singing and entertaining others. Chris was kind and generous and always willing to help others in need.
Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Pearson; father, Bill Cox; and sister, Sharon Rayfield. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna Cox; daughters, Christine Cox and Andrea Harrell; stepson, Jeremy Parker; and grandchildren, Xavier Harrell, Emmett Jennings, and Jay Parker.
A celebration of his life will be held in Spring 2022.

Even though we only knew Chris for a short time, he found him to be very caring and generous.

Chris was a brother Firefighter and we spent many a evening at the firehouse talking about
how to solve the worlds problems. “as if he or I could have made a difference “. But that being said
we did try in our small way. Will miss him , God speed brother we have the watch .
Chris was a great friend and will be missed dearly. I don’t know if I should be mad or sad because his passing was unexpected and out of the blue. I thought we had another 20 years to talk, laugh and drink a beer. Life is so short and not to be taken for granted. I will do my best to make sure Donna is kept in high spirits. Rest in peace, Chris.

Chris was a great friend and co worker, spend days together at work and have many good tales to tell about his life and times. He will be missed by many, He as funny, and could all way make you see the brighter side of things.We will all be together someday, carry on my brother. Go with God.
