Joseph Thomas Grenier, Jr.

Joseph Thomas Grenier, Jr., passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at his home.  He was a native of York County and had lived in Newport News for the last 40 years.  Tom was the manager of the Williamsburg, Gloucester, and Hampton shops of Danny’s Auto Glass, and had been employed for 30 years before he retired.  He served in the U.S. Navy from October 1968 to May 1972 and received the National Defense Services Medal; Viet Nam Service Medal; Viet Nam Campaign Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.  Tom was a member of Deer Park Baptist Church in Newport News.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Lee Michie.  Tom is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, JoAnn (Summerlin) Grenier; three sons, Jason T. Grenier, Eric M. Grenier (Michele) and Travis E. Grenier (Megan); three grandchildren, Natalie R. Grenier, Noah L. Grenier and Connor T. Grenier; father, Joseph Thomas Grenier, Sr.; and sister, Cheryl L. Grenier.  

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Mark Souther for his enduring efforts and extended time spent to support our family’s need for closure.

A private graveside service for family will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park, with Pastor J.R. Gurley officiating.  A memorial gathering will be held for family and friends on Sunday, February 20th, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Deer Park Fellowship (formerly Deer Park Baptist Church), 826 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they adjust to life without Tommy. His service to his country will always be appreciated. His love of his family will never be diminished. Of all the cousins, he was always the “cool” one.
