Peggy Maxine Cassell, lovingly known as “Nan”, passed away peacefully at age 84 on December 25, 2021.

Born in Warren County, NC to the late Ida C. and Max E. Gupton, she was a life-long resident of Newport News and loved her life as a wife and homemaker.  Peggy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She was a longtime member of First Friends Church, Hampton.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, David A. Cassell, and three brothers, Elliotte M., John A., and Lester E. Gupton.  Survivors include her daughters, Shelia G. Butner (Carl), and Cynthia A. Parker; son, Charlie W. Bolton, Jr.; sister, Mary E. Roberts; brother, William S. Gupton; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Peninsula Funeral Home. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5 at the funeral home with a burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.  The family will gather immediately following the burial at 29 Edgemont Drive, Hampton, VA
