Edward Stephen Patterson died peacefully on June 28, 2021. Eddie, son of the late LTC Lowell H. Patterson, Jr. and Elaine Trimble Patterson, was born on August 9, 1962 in Verdun, France. Survivors include his brothers Lowell (Cathy), South (Martha) and James (Margaret). He is also survived by nephews, Lowell, James, Stephen, South and Clement; nieces, Margaret, Morgan, Charlotte, Eleanor and Mary Calvert; and grand nephews, Lowell and Brandon.

Eddie endured the challenges and difficulties associated with Down’s Syndrome bravely and gracefully. He attended public schools in Hampton, Virginia and later worked at the Langley Air Force Base golf club. Throughout his life he enjoyed a wide variety of activities at the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center, especially scouting, dancing and sporting events. Eddie’s swimming, bowling, and basketball skills were truly remarkable. He was, however, first and foremost a family man.

Eddie participated with great enthusiasm in weddings, baptisms, beach vacations, parties and other family gatherings. His very presence was always special and wonderful, and will be truly irreplaceable. Eddie loved good food, music, dancing and socializing. He sustained many life-long friendships with a broad variety of people. His infectious smile and playful demeanor will always be remembered.

The Patterson family deeply appreciates the loving care that Carolyn Craig and her family extended to Eddie for many years. Carolyn treated Eddie like a son.

A funeral service for Eddie will take place at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Yorktown, Virginia on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 am. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
