Linda Atkins Rutter passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021, at the age of 79 in her home in Newport News. She was born on September 13, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Minnie Atkins.

A lifelong resident of Newport News, she graduated from Warwick High School in 1960 and attended East Carolina College. She was a member of Hilton Jr. Woman’s Club, a member of Temple Baptist Church, employed by Riverside Regional Medical Center in the Radiology Department for nineteen years, and she was extremely active in Deer Park Little League and youth soccer leagues in Newport News.

Linda loved spending time with her family and always welcomed everyone into her home. She was an avid reader, lover of flowers, and enjoyed spending time at Huntington Beach. The family would like to thank Sunny Ruther and Sherry Howe for their support and life-long friendship.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Charles M. Rutter III. Survivors include her four sons, Charles M. Rutter IV (Pam), Daniel W. Rutter of Newport News, Mark H. Rutter (Niki) of Salisbury MD., and Russell R. Rutter (Kim) of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Daniel Rutter, Luke Rutter, Ben Rutter, Madeline Warren, Charles Rutter, Mike, and Erin Howe; brother John W. Atkins (Becky); and two nieces, Kelley James and Sarah Cook.

The family will receive friends on July 10, 2021, from 3:00 to 4:30 at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23601. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
