Thomas R. Heard, 83, of Newport News passed away December 19, 2020 while in hospice care at Edgeworth Park memory care unit. He suffered from Alzheimer’s and related symptoms. Tom was born in New Jersey. He became a tools and fixtures designer, employed by Pitney Bowes, GE, Liebherr, and Mueller Martini. Tom was an active bowler until 2019. He loved working on cars and motorcycles, and in the 60’s he raced cars at a local amateur level in Connecticut. He and his wife of 48 years, Janet, moved to Newport News in 1970.

Thomas is predeceased by his father, Richard; mother, Mabel; brother, Randy; and his beloved wife, Janet. He is survived by his sister, Diane of Newport News; and his children and grandchildren, David Heard (Sheril; Andy, Charles, Jeanette) of NC; Richard Heard (Chesleigh; Rylan and Scarlet) of AL; and Tracy Waible (Jon; Vivian) of Williamsburg.

The family will receive visitors June 6, 2021 from 11: 00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service to follow at noon at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., in Newport News.
