Nancy Whitehouse Fass, 89, born in Baltimore, MD, and formerly of Newport News, VA, died peacefully at her home in Lauderhill FL on May 14, 2021. Nancy was the daughter of Samuel Whitehouse, MD, and Ethel McGee Whitehouse and was raised in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Baltimore.

After graduating from Friends School of Baltimore in 1949, she earned her BA in American Studies from Smith College in 1953. She met her husband Irving “Luie” Fass in Baltimore, married in 1953, and moved to Portsmouth, VA, and then Newport News, VA where she raised five children.  As a dedicated life-long learner, she returned to school and obtained a master’s degree in Art History from Old Dominion University in 1985.

Nancy was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and, in addition, treasured her long-lasting friendships. Nancy loved gardening, traveling, reading, the arts, especially the ballet.  Wherever she lived, she made sure she had a daily view of the birds from the windows in her home.  In her later years, she and Luie shared many mornings watching the birds and blooms from their porch. Her infectious laugh and clever sense of humor were loved and appreciated by everyone that knew her.

Nancy was a loyal and generous supporter of many organizations that had great meaning to her. Among her most loved were Smith College, The National Council of Jewish Women, and The World Wildlife Fund.  Nancy was an active member of the Temple Sinai Sisterhood.  Her passion for reading led her to volunteer in public school’s literary programs.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years Luie Fass;  her children, Sally Parker (Scott Parker) of Boca Raton, FL; Amy Fass of Rockville, MD; Andrew Fass (Alison Fass) of Baltimore, MD; Thomas Fass (Rebecca Fass) of Newport News, VA; and Jeremy Fass (Bobbie Fass) of Richmond, VA; her adored 11 grandchildren, Erica Parker, Steven Parker, Samantha Uslan, Rachel Uslan, Adam Uslan, Ben Fass, Anna Fass, Claudia Fass, Emma Fass, Grace Fass, and Isaac Fass; four great-grandchildren, Michael Paris, Evan Paris, Asher Parker, and Harley Parker; and her sister Jane Cohen of Baltimore, MD.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21 at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA. Facial masks and social distancing will be required.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Council of Jewish Women.  Following the service, the family will receive visitors at 203 Riverside Drive, Newport News, VA.
