Shelton M. Laws, 84, husband of Betty J. Laws of 52 years, passed away on March 7, 2021 at their home in Newport News, VA.

Shelton was born on February 27, 1937 in Wayne County, NC, to the late Leamon and Luna (Britt) Laws.

Shelton was a member of Liberty Baptist church which he loved and where he enjoyed being part of the Liberty Builders team on Tuesday mornings. Shelton joined the Army/Navy after attending Grantham High School. In 1956, he moved to Newport News, VA to join Newport News Shipbuilding. In 1970, he went to work for Riggins Company for 40 years before retiring to enjoy life. He was a devoted and loving father to Shayne and Lisa and his passion was working in his garden and in his wood shed, he enjoyed the outdoors. He will be missed by all for his wonderful sense of humor and joy for life.

In addition to his parents, Shelton was preceded in death by his sister, Alice and brother, Guilford. He is survived by his brother, Dwight and sister, Mary; son, Shayne and daughter, Lisa; four wonderful grandchildren, Chris, Rachael, Jessica and Stephanie; five great- grandchildren, Christopher “CJ”, Brycen, Dominick “Dom”, Jaiden, Santana and expecting Nova Rena`. He loved his family and even during his sickness he always talked about how he loved Betty, his bride and their last kiss.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, in Hampton, with Rev. Joe Hunt officiating. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
