Colleen Swinson Ferree
Colleen Swinson Ferree, 89, of Newport News, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from congestive heart failure. She was born in Morehead City, NC to Dock and Lillie Swinson. After graduation from Morehead City High School, she came to live in Newport News and worked at Newport News Shipyard for a couple of years, where she met her future husband, Tom Ferree. She then became a homemaker and mother to four children.
Colleen loved her family and she loved the Lord. She was a faithful and devoted member of Warwick Assembly of God where she was actively involved and also enjoyed attending functions with her friends at Temple Baptist Church over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Thomas Ferree, son, David Ferree, son-in-law, Michael Plott, great-granddaughter, Cayden Gracie Smith, brothers Earl, Royce Lee, Jesse Ray, Reginald and Linwood Swinson, and sisters, Irma Oliver, Reta Cannon and Faye Conte. Colleen is survived by her loving children, Joseph Ferree (Linda), Deborah Plott and Kathryn Whitely (Roger); grandchildren, Karen Watson (Dave), Kevin Plott, Logan Ferree, Jessica Richman (Matt) and Joshua Whitely; great-grandchildren, Dylan Peterson, Lily Watson, Hannah Watson, Halle Plott, Hayden Plott, Parker Richman and Layla Richman; sisters, Norma Midgett (Buddy), Melva Pollard, brother-in-law, Paul Ferree (Sandra); and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Mennowood Retirement Community for their outstanding care, love and kindness to our Mother. A special thank you to Vivian and Erika.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Wes Taylor, will be held at Temple Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. A private Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Facial masks and social distancing will be required.
