Jerry Wayne Malpass

Jerry Wayne Malpass, 68, of Newport News, left his family and friends much too soon and entered Heaven’s gates on January 30, 2021. Born June 15, 1952, in Wilmington, NC, Jerry grew up in and around Hampton and Newport News. Before enlisting in the Army in 1970, he attended Hampton High School. He served a tour in Vietnam and left the Army as a Specialist in 1977 from Ft. Eustis. Jerry then spent the next 12 years sailing the world with Exxon Shipping Company before leaving in 1989. He worked for a period in environmental services before retiring from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 2010.

An avid fan of NASCAR and the Washington Football Team, he was most known for his sense of humor and contagious laughter. Often the target of jokes, he took great pleasure in being able to laugh at himself and light up a crowd.

Preceding him in death are his parents Joyce Branch Malpass and George “Fred” Malpass, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lisa Frazier Malpass, and their only son, Carter-Gage Malpass; older brother, George “Freddie” Malpass, Jr. (Sherry); a younger brother, David Lee Malpass (Rita); sister, Elaine Malpass Prout (Tracy); sister-in-law, Karen Sue Frazier; countless nieces and nephews; and an abundance of life-long friends.

A Graveside Celebration of Life, with military honors, will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Facial masks and social distancing will be required.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his honor to Disabled American Veterans or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
