William Bruce Edwards

William “Bruce” Edwards of Newport News passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. He was born and raised in Forest, Indiana, and was a 1948 graduate of Forest High School. Bruce served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954 and was stationed at Langley AFB, where he met and married Vivian Scott. They moved to Indiana where they raised two sons. Bruce graduated from Indiana Business College and built a career working with computers when the industry was in its infancy. He was a private pilot, owned a plane, and was passionate about aviation. After 39 years in Indiana, Bruce and Vivian returned to Newport News in 1993. Both were members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where Bruce taught Sunday School.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, mother, Vanda (Hardee) Edwards, father, Claude Edwards: sisters Claudia Berry, Dorothy Edwards, Eloise Sheets, and Gloria Hiatt, and brothers, Lee and Gail.  He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Edwards and his wife, Cindy of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and their sons, Christian, of Santa Barbara, CA, and Clark, of Denver, CO; and Curtis and his wife, Michelle of Denver, CO, and their daughter, Lauren, of Seattle, WA.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Peninsula Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 300 Ella Taylor Road, Yorktown, VA. The final resting place will be Quantico National Cemetery.

    Jeff, Curt & Family: Sad to hear about the loss of your Dad. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the funeral. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
